Unplug!

We are so used to being connected to the world, may it be in real or virtually, that we don’t remember to take time for ourselves. Though we feel a constant connection owing to social media, we are alone. But despite being alone, we don’t make use of that time for ourselves; instead we find all sorts of ways to fill in the gap. But alone time is more beneficial than you think. Here’s why you should unplug today, and make some “me” time:

Alone time can be fun

Sometimes, all you need is that break from the world, socializing and all the commitments you have. Take yourself out to a movie, or go to a coffeehouse, take a long walk on the beach, or just go sit quietly on the bench in the park. More often than not, we are so caught up in daily routine and work that we forget about ourselves and what we want, or we just give up on the things we want to do because someone else is not interested. You like to watch chick-flicks but your partner doesn’t? Well, go out and watch it by yourself!

Alone time makes you creative

Research shows that people come up with their best when they are alone (if you are into brainstorming for ideas, I doubt this will work for you) . You have unparalleled, undisturbed time that you can use to get your creative juices flowing!

Alone time gives you time

Remember that book you have been planning to do for ages? Or that painting you have wanted to get done? Well, now is the time to get ém going and finish!

You get to meet new people

When we go out with our friends, we are so caught up with them that we hardly notice anyone else. Try some of your favourite activities alone; join a music club or a trek group. This way, you will meet more people like you.

It helps you clear your mind

“Constantly being ‘on’ doesn’t give your brain a chance to rest and replenish itself.”

Being alone gives your brain that recharge and (much needed) rejuvenation so that you come back fresh to face the rest of the week. After a whole week of working, taking care of the kids, and running around doing your chores, you deserve that.

Introspection, duh 😛

There was once a professor who told us that every week, his wife and he would leave the kids at home and head off to the beach (they live in a coastal area) where each would walk alone and reflect on all that they had done that week. He stated that they came back feeling very content and looked forward to the next week. Alone time gives you a chance to reflect on your life, and your actions. It helps you think more clearly and make rational decisions. It gives you the time to understand if what you are doing is what you really want, and if you want to keep doing it.

Happy Sunday, xxx!!

P.S.  Alone time is different from loneliness. Loneliness carries some health risks but making some time for you has oodles of benefits. And once in a while, it is this personal time that boosts your relationship with yourself and others around you.

Here’s to more me-time!

Cheers,

Aishu
